Billie Eilish admits to ordering 'Billie Eilish Halloween costume wig' from Amazon to hide blonde hair

Billie Eilish joined The Late Show with Stephen Colbert in late February around the release of her acclaimed—because what does she do that isn't acclaimed?—Apple TV documentary The World's a Little Blurry, and she appeared with her then-signature jet black and green hair.

The 19-year-old musical prodigy joined Colbert again Monday night, and she had some clarifying to do.

"I look basically the same as I did two months ago," Colbert pointed out. "Now you're blonde—and I love it—but there's been a lot rumors out on the internet, and I want you to settle something for me. When you were last here on the show, were you in fact wearing a Billie Eilish wig?"

"Steve, I was just as blonde then as I am now," Eilish responded. "I was wearing a Billie Eilish wig. I was, I was, I was!"

The seven-time Grammy winner then explained that a wig was necessary because she was going through "processing periods" to ensure her hair remained healthy while transitioning from black and green to blonde.

"I didn't want to look insane," she continued, "but I needed something quick, so I ordered a Billie Eilish Halloween costume wig on Amazon."

Eilish eventually revealed her blonde hairdo on Instagram—to the tune of a record-breaking 22.9-plus million likes and counting—two days after the 63rd Grammy Awards, where she snagged record of the year for the second-straight year, in mid-March. In the weeks since, Eilish confirmed what fans had long suspected. The new hair coincides with a new album, her sophomore studio album, titled Happier Than Ever. The project is due July 30.

Eilish, whose first book released today, confidently leaned all the way into her new look as the latest cover star for British Vogue (click here for the cover story):
