Britney Spears' lawyer moving 'aggressively and expeditiously' to remove Jamie Spears as conservator

Britney Spears is collecting small victories.

After Spears was granted permission by the court to appoint Mathew Rosengart as her new attorney last week, a brief hearing was held in her ongoing conservatorship case in Los Angeles Court on Monday (July 19).

Rosengart addressed reporters afterward (h/t Billboard):

"Today was about the issue concerning security. The only thing I'm going to add to what I said last week in court and outside is: First, I once again want to thank Britney Spears for her courage and for her strength. I want to thank Judge Penny for her courtesy and welcoming my firm and I into this case, and I also want to thank Britney Spears' fans and supporters. The outreach and support for my firm, myself and most importantly Britney has truly been overwhelming -- coast to coast and literally throughout the world.

"Finally, and the last thing I'm going to say about this matter is: As I said in court last week and outside, my firm and I are moving aggressively and expeditiously to file a petition to remove Jamie Spears unless he resigns first."

The 39-year-old pop star has been under a court-appointed conservatorship since October 2008. Her father, Jamie Spears, served as her primary conservator until health complications forced him to step down into a co-conservator role in 2019.

During last Wednesday's (July 14) hearing, Spears asserted her intention to sue Jamie for conservatorship abuse:

All of this, including Rosengart's appointment, was set in motion after Spears gave a 24-minute statement in court June 23. It was her first time addressing the court in two years. Amidst bombshell revelations about the trauma she has endured, the Grammy winner expressed her desire to petition to not only remove Jamie but end her conservatorship altogether. She also said she wanted the opportunity to "handpick my own lawyer by myself."

Larry Rudolph, her manager of 25 years, and Sam Ingham III, her court-appointed lawyer, formally resigned July 6.
