Don Cheadle hints at the possibility of another 'Ocean's' movie
Steven Soderbergh's production is prolific, and that is partially due to the fact that the Oscar-winning director never settles for the film he is currently working on.
While making No Sudden Move, a new 1955 crime drama that hit HBO Max today (July 1), Soderbergh was at least entertaining the idea of reviving his wildly popular Ocean's trilogy.
"We were talking about it, and then Bernie [Mac] passed, and very quickly we were like, 'No, we don't want to do it,'" Don Cheadle, a frequent Soderbergh collaborator and one of many stars in No Sudden Move, told Entertainment Weekly. "But I just did a movie with Steven and he said, 'I think there may be a way to do it again. I'm thinking about it.'"
Cheadle continued: "And it didn't go much further than that. But I don't know; I don't know who all would be in it. I imagine the main group of us would be in. It would be interesting to see."
Ocean's Eleven debuted in 2001. Directed by Soderbergh, the heist film was centered around newly paroled con artist Danny Ocean (George Clooney) who enlists 10 accomplices for a new job. The dazzling supporting cast included Cheadle, Mac, Casey Affleck, Scott Caan, Matt Damon, Elliott Gould, Eddie Jemison, Brad Pitt, Carl Reiner and Shaobo Qin.
Mac died from pneumonia in August 2008, and Reiner passed away last June at 98 years old.
Ocean's Twelve followed in 2004, and then Ocean's Thirteen in 2007.
The most recent installment from the franchise was 2018 spinoff Ocean's Eight, starring Sandra Bullock as Debbie Ocean, Danny's sister, who orchestrates a heist at the Met Gala with a crew of her own.
Ocean's Eight boasted Cate Blanchett, Anne Hathaway, Mindy Kaling, Awkwafina and Rihanna as well as Gould and Qin. Soderbergh served as a producer.
