Don Cheadle reveals Michael Jordan is in 'Space Jam' sequel, 'but not in the way you'd expect it'
The LeBron James-fronted Space Jam: A New Legacy will finally arrive July 16 to theaters and HBO Max after years and years of waiting.
Fans are already buzzing based upon the pop cultural impact the original Michael Jordan-led Space Jam (1996) had and still has, but Don Cheadle added a little fuel to the fire at the end of his interview with Access Hollywood:
"Michael Jordan is in the movie," Cheadle, 56, said. "But not in the way you'd expect it!"
Now we know the Chicago Bulls legend and six-time NBA champion will at least be recognized alongside the roster of current ballers set to make cameos:
An Entertainment Weekly cover story published in early March gave an exclusive first-look to A New Legacy, including never-before-seen images and a plot description:
"Playing a heightened version of himself, James struggles to relate to [Cedric] Joe's Dom, who's much more interested in creating games than playing them. When Dom's tech skills draw the attention of a CGI humanoid named Al G Rhythm (Don Cheadle), the father-son duo get sucked into the Warner 3000 entertainment 'Server-verse,' with the A.I. kidnapping Dom in the hopes of stealing some of the King's followers (IRL he has about 80 million on Instagram)."
It's very much a 2021 version of Jordan having to save the Tune Squad from an evil theme park owner.
