'Dune' receives six-minute standing ovation at Venice Film Festival

There was a six-minute standing ovation at the conclusion of Dune's world premiere at the Venice Film Festival, and let's be honest, it should have been for Timothée Chalamet's sparkly black suit designed by Haider Ackermann.

But Dune probably deserved it, too.

At any rate, Variety shared footage from the moment Friday (Sept. 3):

Directed by Denis Villeneuve, Dune  is the much-anticipated film adaptation of Frank Herbert's 1965 sci-fi novel by the same name. Chalamet stars as Paul Atreides, "the son of a noble family entrusted with the protection of the most valuable asset and most vital element in the galaxy," with Zendaya, Jason Momoa, Josh Brolin, Javier Bardem and Dave Bautista rounding out the cast.

Chalamet dished on Dune in an interview published earlier this week by Deadlineadmitting that he set up a Google alert for the movie as soon as Villeneuve became attached as director because he wanted a part that badly and foreshadowing what could come in a Dune sequel.

"Chani [played by Zendaya] will play a huge role in the next film," the 25-year-old said. I don’t know if there’s a script yet, but just based on the book, along with Lady Jessica [Rebecca Ferguson], they have a lot to do together, let’s put it like that. Zendaya was incredible in this movie; the moment she pulls the mask down, it felt properly show-stopping and powerful. I was hiding behind the camera, counting my lucky stars, because I was there in month two of the shoot, and here was a total powerhouse just coming in for the first time."

The public will finally have a chance to experience what Chalamet and the audience at the Venice Film Festival loved so much when Dune hits theaters Oct. 22.

And Villeneuve very much wants you to go see it in theaters.

"When you watch this movie on the big screen, it is a physical experience," the one-time Oscar nominee said, per Variety. "We tried to design it to be as immersive as possible."
