Emma Stone would watch a movie based on Ursulla's origin story
Emma Stone will now forever be partially known as Cruella de Vil, and she wants to share the Disney villainess wealth.
Variety's Marc Malkin asked the cast of Cruella to name one other Disney villain who deserves an origin story film, and Stone's response was particularly interesting.
"Ursulla would be interesting," the 32-year-old actress said. "She's an octopus, and the world you would get to live in—like, Ursulla's parents. What happened there? We've never really seen a non-human Disney villain be explored in that way."
Emma Thompson agreed that Ursulla "would be good," as did Kirby Howell-Baptiste.
"I gotta know how Ursulla came to be," Howell-Baptiste added. "Like, why is she so damn mean? But also, I know that she's misunderstood. Or I think Scar. Because I think Scar has some deep-seated issues, and obviously his brother was clearly the favorite."
In the way of animated villains, Aladin's Jafar and a Darren Aronofsky twist on Lilo & Stitch were thrown out there.
Cruella, obviously, is the live-action origin story for the infamous One Hundred and One Dalmatians/101 Dalmatians villainess. The Craig Gillespie-directed prequel follows a young woman named Estella in 1970s London as she descends into her Cruella persona.
Cruella posted a four-day $26.5 million opening mark at the box office across 3,892 theaters over Memorial Day Weekend, according to Deadline. The film is also available to stream with Premier Access on Disney Plus.
