Family of 9-year-old boy in coma joins mounting Astroworld lawsuits against Travis Scott
It's difficult to keep track of how many lawsuits have been filed since Monday morning in the aftermath of Travis Scott's Astroworld Festival that left eight people dead and hundreds injured Friday night at Houston's NRG Park when scores of the 50,000 attendees dangerously surged toward the stage.
According to BuzzFeed News, the family of nine-year-old Ezra Blount filed a lawsuit against Scott and Live Nation that cites "grossly negligent conduct." The outlet relayed that at least 28 suits have specifically named Scott as a defendant.
Blount's aunt, Taylor Blount, joined TODAY on Tuesday morning to explain what happened to her nephew, who remains in a medically induced coma:
Ezra was on the shoulders of his father, Treston Blount, and fell when Treston passed out due to the dangerous activity in the crowd.
"The crowd just starts going crazy, and Treston goes, 'I can't breathe, I can't breathe,'" Taylor Blount shared, later adding, "[Ezra]’s made it very far. The doctor the first day told us that he wasn’t expected to make it after the day, but it’s how many days after, so I know he’s fighting in there."
According to the write-up of the TODAY segment, "Doctors said Ezra suffered severe swelling in his brain and went into cardiac arrest at the concert or on the way to the hospital. Now he’s in a coma to minimize brain and heart function so the swelling can go down, Blount said, adding Ezra also suffered damage to his lungs, liver and kidney."
