George R.R. Martin is 'hugely behind' on highly-anticipated 'Winds of Winter'

Fans of A Song of Ice and Fire have been waiting for a decade for The Winds of Winter, the sixth book in the beloved fantasy series, to finally be released. But a new blog post from George R.R. Martin suggests that fans should expect to keep waiting, as the author sounds like he is no closer to finishing the highly-anticipated book.

Martin wrote on his blog, cheekily named Not A Blog, that he was feeling overwhelmed by the pressure to finish Winds of Winter. He gave no clear indication of a timeline and, in fact, he did not even directly mention Winds of Winter in the blog post. But he seems to admit that he is struggling with finishing it, writing that "when a lot of stuff happens very fast, I fall further and further behind."

"I am hugely behind right now, and the prospect of trying to catch up is feeling increasingly oppressive," Martin wrote.

It has been 25 years since Game of Thrones, the first book in the series, was released and fans have grown increasingly concerned that Martin, who is 72, may not be able to finish the series. Martin did reveal that he had officially been vaccinated, though he also said that he had lost six friends since November, a few of whom died from COVID.
