Halle Bailey confirms filming has wrapped on 'The Little Mermaid' live-action remake
It won't be much longer before Halle Bailey debuts as Ariel.
The 21-year-old actress and singer-songwriter shared Monday (July 12) that production on the live-action remake of The Little Mermaid has wrapped:
As Bailey alluded to, it has been quite the journey to complete the movie.
"Production crew of the hotly anticipated Disney pic, directed by Rob Marshall, is expected to start disembarking in Sardinia in the coming weeks," Variety relayed in early April. "The shoot will be moving from London’s Pinewood Studios to the small seaside village of Santa Teresa di Gallura, on the island’s northern coast, according to a local press report, which sources have confirmed. The area is known for its stunning, super clean seafront, rocky shore and Bronze Age artifacts."
Bailey was first linked to portraying the iconic Disney princess in July 2019, and despite disgustingly racist responses to her casting, the Chloe x Halle performer has kept her head held high:
The four-time Grammy nominee has starred alongside her 23-year-old sister, Chloe Bailey, as twin track stars Sky Forster and Jazz Forster respectively on Freeform's Grown-ish since 2018. The Little Mermaid will mark Halle's first lead role in a feature film.
The Little Mermaid also stars Awkwafina, Javier Bardem, Melissa McCarthy and Jacob Tremblay.
The soundtrack comes from Alan Menken, who composed on the original 1989 animated classic, with lyrics by Lin-Manuel Miranda.
"Halle Bailey is going to be such an incredible Ariel," the Hamilton creator told Entertainment Tonight last July. "And getting to write music for these characters that are probably the reason I started writing musicals in the first place, it was actually easier than I thought."
