HBO Max reportedly has its 'Batgirl' lead actress

Leslie Grace has reportedly booked her next acting gig, according to Variety.

After making her film-acting debut as Nina Rosario in In The Heights, the 26-year-old will embody the titular character (also known as Barbara Gordon) for HBO Max's forthcoming Batgirl film.

"In securing the part, Grace beat out several formidable contenders including Five Feet Apart actress Haley Lu Richardson, Dora and the Los City of Gold star Isabela Merced and Zoey Deutch," Variety's Rebecca Rubin reported.

Deadline's Justin Kroll provided more context:

"The studio was already super high on the rising star following her breakout role in In the Heights, and sources say her audition sealed the deal as the choice.

The studio had no comment.

The film will bow on HBO Max, marking one of the first major DC properties to debut exclusively on the streamer. Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah will direct the pic from a script by Christina Hodson. Kristin Burr is producing."

Kroll had previously exclusively reported Monday (July 19) that Warner Bros. and DC Films were set to start testing actresses for Batgirl this week.

Grace is additionally a three-time Latin Grammy-nominated singer.
