Is there a 'To All the Boys' spinoff series in the works?
There is a large faction within the even larger To All the Boys fan base with the tightly held conviction that Kitty Song Covey was the trilogy's best and most unsung character.
Those people will be thrilled to hear from Deadline's Nellie Andreeva, who is exclusively reporting that Awesomeness and ACE Entertainment are exploring a TV series spinoff:
"I hear the untitled half-hour romantic comedy series project, now in early development, would follow Kitty, the youngest of the Covey sisters, on her quest to find true love. The movies’ breakout Anna Cathcart is on board to reprise her role as Kitty Song Covey. Netflix declined comment.
"Jenny Han, author of the To All the Boys books that were adapted into the Netflix movie trilogy, is the creator, writer, and executive producer of the potential series. Siobhan Vivian and Han are co-writing the pilot script, based on the character from Han’s popular novels To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before (published in 2014), P.S. I Still Love You (2015) and Always and Forever, Lara Jean (2017)."
Netflix premiered the first film adaptation from Han's novels in 2018 with To All the Boys I've Loved Before, which centered around Kitty (Cathcart) sending out love letters her older sister, Lara Jean Song Covey (Lana Condor), had privately written to all of her crushes over the years. Peter Kavinsky (Noah Centineo) received one, and the two began a fake relationship that adorably and iconically developed into a very real teenage love story.
The sequel, To All the Boys: P.S. I Still Love You, arrived in February 2020. In it, Lara Jean and Peter were firmly the internet's favorite couple before John Ambrose (Jordan Fisher), a past letter recipient, enters the picture through her school volunteer work and muddies her feelings. Ultimately, of course, Lara Jean and Peter survive.
Their relationship was as strong as ever to set up the third and final installment, Always and Forever, which hit Netflix just in time for Valentine's Day on Feb. 12. High school is ending, and Lara Jean and Peter have it all figured out: they're going to go to Stanford together and take over the world. The only problem is that Lara Jean doesn't get accepted. That, paired with a class trip to New York City, opens her mind up to possibilities outside of her relationship.
Lara Jean and Peter break up (briefly—just long enough for the perfect rom-com climax) before Peter realizes something this special is worth fighting for. Lara Jean follows her heart to NYU, Peter still attends Stanford, and they decide to commit to keeping their relationship alive the way it started: through love letters.
That storyline wrapped up nicely, but there is still plenty to explore with Kitty, who hasn't even broached high school yet and just began dipping her toe in the water with matters of the heart in Always and Forever. Peter Kavinsky may always be everybody's Internet Boyfriend, Kitty could and should have the proper space to become everybody's Internet Little Sister.
