Jerry Seinfeld is making a Netflix movie based on his Pop-Tart joke

Unlike the minute or two it takes for a Pop-Tart to toast, Jerry Seinfeld's next Netflix project has been years in the making.

Deadline's Mike Fleming Jr. exclusively reported Wednesday (June 23) that Netflix "has committed to a green light and a production start next spring" for Unfrosted, a comedy movie directed by, produced by and starring Seinfeld.

"Stuck at home watching endless sad faces on TV, I thought this would be a good time to make something based on pure silliness," the iconic 67-year-old comedian told the outlet. "So we took my Pop-Tart stand-up bit from my last Netflix special and exploded it into a giant, crazy comedy movie."

Seinfeld has been telling the joke long before 23 Hours to Kill hit Netflix last May:

"An auction quietly has been playing out for several days, and Seinfeld’s relationship with Netflix’s Ted Sarandos was helpful in swinging the deal to the streamer," Fleming Jr. added. "Seinfeld signed a lucrative deal with Netflix in 2017 that brought his interview series Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee to Netflix, as well the stand-up specials Jerry Before Seinfeld and 23 Hours to Kill

"In addition, Netflix last year made a global deal to stream episodes of Seinfeld for five years, beginning later this year."

Seinfeld starred (obviously) as the titular character in Seinfeld, co-created alongside Larry David, for nine seasons from 1989 to 1998. The 10-time Primetime Emmy-winning sitcom also starred Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Jason Alexander and Michael Richards.
