Kate Winslet gushes over ‘Murdur Durdur’ sketch: ‘I have never felt so validated’

Kate McKinnon strikes again.

McKinnon impersonated Kate Winslet’s titular Mare of Easttown character for a Saturday Night Live sketch called Murdur Durdur in early May, and Winslet still can’t get enough of it.

“I have never felt so validated as an actor in my entire life as I now do because of Murdur Durdur," Winslet told Entertainment Weekly for its Awardist podcast, adding: “Every now and then in our household we'll be like, 'Oh, should we just quickly watch it?' And we'll crowd around the iPhone crying with laughter."

Mare of Easttown was an immensely popular HBO limited series—though the door is open for a second season—centered around small-town Pennsylvania detective Mare Sheehan (Winslet) as she works to uncover a murder. Created by Brad Ingelsby, its intense seven-episode arc concluded with a finale that crashed HBO Max on May 30.

Jean Smart, Guy Pearce, Angourie Rice, Evan Peters, Julianne Nicholson and John Douglas Thompson were among those starring alongside Winslet.
The hit series is nominated for a whopping 15 awards at September’s 73rd Primetime Emmys, including limited or anthology series as well as a nod for Winslet in the lead actress in limited series.

Murdur Durdur gets its title from the thick accents associated with the Pennsylvania area and omnipresent in Mare of Easttown. McKinnon is saying that someone’s daughter has been murdered, but it comes out as “murdur durdur,” creating a hilarious spoof of otherwise dark subject matter. Watch below.
