Since the NBA changed its stance on Marijuana, Kevin Durant has been vocal about his support of the drug and crushing the negative stigmas attached to using it.
In an interview with David Letterman, which will be released on May 20th, the subject was brought up when Durant hilariously admitted that he wasn't exactly sober at the moment.
Durant's fascination with weed is pretty well documented. According to author Matt Sullivan, the guy's house absolutely reeks of the stuff.
“He smokes even more weed than you would think,” Sullivan said, via audacy.com. “I was at his house at one o’clock in the morning. The entire place just reeks. He doesn’t have a girlfriend. He doesn’t go on crazy vacations. He doesn’t do anything other than hoop. Like nothing. He’s boring as hell. So going out to him is just blazing.”
Back in August, the former MVP announced a partnership and sponsorship deal with cannabis marketplace Weedmaps in an attempt to normalize smoking.
Durant has been an advocate for the benefits of marijuana in the past and has invested in cannabis-related businesses. It's the furthest an active major pro athlete, especially one with Durant's visibility, has gone in the pot space.
"I think it's far past time to address the stigmas around cannabis that still exist in the sports world as well as globally," Durant told ESPN. "This partnership is going to help us continue to normalize those conversations, as well as create content, events, and a lot more through our Boardroom media network. This is just the beginning for us."
Weedmaps doesn't directly sell marijuana but is an e-commerce platform that guides users to dispensaries. Durant declined to directly discuss personal marijuana usage.
So, KD has been a vocal supporter of marijuana over the past few years, and it's not hard to see why. Smoking grass can help alleviate stress, bring people together, and just create a more enjoyable home experience for anyone.
For Durant, it's his way to slow down his mind and his life. It seems he has become quite the pothead, to the point where even public interviews could feature him riding a high.
