Lynne Spears is 'a very concerned mother' after Britney's statement in conservatorship case

Britney Spears was remarkably candid in her 24-minute statement to Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Brenda Penny in L.A. court Wednesday (June 23), and while the 39-year-old pop star took aim at her father, Jamie Spears—acting as her co-conservator—her mother, Lynne Spears, firmly supports her quest to end a nearly 13-year conservatorship.

According to Us Weekly, Gladstone Jones, Lynne's attorney, stated to the court on behalf of Lynne that she is a "very concerned mother" after hearing Britney recount what she has endured since being placed under a conservatorship in 2008. "Jones encouraged the judge to listen to Britney’s request to hire her own private attorney and to change her care plan," the outlet added.

"I first want to say that was very courageous of Ms. Spears," Jones separately said while addressing the court, per Vulture. "One thing I want to raise with the court ... is when she was there in May 2019 that she didn't feel like she was heard. I feel we need to make sure today that she was heard."

He added: "Today is the day while the world watches while we listen to to Ms. Spears ... that we put in place a plan. That is her mother’s request. That we not leave the court without having a plan."

In April, Lynne objected to Jamie spending $890,000 in legal fees and demanded $224,000 be "immediately repaid" to Britney's estate.

Jamie stepped down as the acting primary conservator in September 2019, citing his own declining health, but he maintained status as co-conservator of her affairs, estate and person.

The Grammy-winning icon's case was first brought to court in late 2020—a judge declined to remove Jamie as co-conservator, and last December, her conservatorship was extended through this September.

Christopher C. Melcher, a California family law attorney, told Yahoo that he does not anticipate "a quick ending to this" because of the complicated steps that will follow after Britney's desperate plea to end the conservatorship.
