Margot Robbie needs 'a break' from Harley Quinn after 'The Suicide Squad'

The Suicide Squad will invade theaters (and HBO Max) on Aug. 6, and that may be the last time fans see Harley Quinn for a while.

Margot Robbie debuted as Harley in 2016's Suicide Squad and continued embodying the villainess in Birds of Prey (2020) and now The Suicide Squad. In other words, the relationship between actress and psychotic character has been intense.

"It was kind of back-to-back filming Birds ... and filming this, so I was kind of like, oof, I need a break from Harley because she's exhausting," the two-time Oscar-nominated actress told Entertainment Weekly. "I don't know when we're next going to see her. I'm just as intrigued as everyone else is."

The Suicide Squad is James Gunn's unofficial sequel to the David Ayer-directed 2016 film, and Gunn specifically basked in the opportunity to create new storylines around Harley Quinn when unveiling the first official red band trailer in late March:

Along with Robbie's Harley, Viola Davis is reprising her role of Amanda Waller, who oversees the Belle Reve prison and unites its villainous prisoners to form Task Force X. The group is deployed to "the remote, enemy-infused island of Corto Maltese."
