Matthew McConaughey watches his 'Dazed and Confused' audition for the first time
Matthew McConaughey's past and present collided Friday when he used his recently launched YouTube channel to reflect on Dazed and Confused, the 1993 cult classic that marked his Hollywood breakout and coined his still-famous "alright, alright, alright" phrase.
The 51-year-old filmed himself watching his audition tape for Wooderson. At first, he just silently grinned and let out subtle giggles, but eventually, he commented in his signature soothing delivery.
"Nice, look at that. So, that audition, which I've never seen, was my audition for Wooderson and Dazed and Confused, which, I'm sitting here and I watch and I go, 'Man, that was 1992—28 years ago—you thought you might just have a little three-day job for a summer hobby,' and 28 years later, I still got a little summer job that turned into a career."
McConaughey went on to carry several romantic comedies in the early 2000s (before diving more seriously into dramatic roles such as Dallas Buyers Club (2013), The Wolf of Wall Street (2013) and True Detective (2014). His work as Ron Woodroof earned him his first Oscar.
The proud Texan has more recently made headlines through expressing at least some level of interest in running for governor and promoting new MLS club Austin FC that he co-owns.
