Meryl Streep says 'annoying' Jonah Hill made her 'ruin a lot of takes' while filming 'Don't Look Up'
The A-list cast of Adam McKay's Don't Look Up is out promoting the highly anticipated sci-fi dramedy like one big (very famous) happy family, and with that comes playful chiding.
While on the red carpet at the New York City premiere on Sunday night (Dec. 5), Streep was informed by Access Hollywood's Scott Evans that Jennifer Lawrence's "one rule" while filming was not to annoy the three-time Oscar winner. Streep responded by calling out the costar who did annoy her:
"She failed," Streep, 72, joked. "No, who's annoying is Jonah [Hill]. I love him, but he did make me laugh, and I don't have a lot of control. I would ruin a lot of takes, and he loved it.
Lawrence's fear of annoying Streep was briefly explored in this Vanity Fair cover story published Nov. 22.
"My biggest concern was I did not want to annoy Meryl Streep. That’s my worst nightmare," Lawrence, 31, told the publication. "So, I will only speak if spoken to, and I will be the least annoying person in the room."
McKay added: “She just kept saying, ‘I’m going to be quiet. I won’t speak.’ Meryl Streep shows up and Jen comes over to me like she’s a 12-year-old and is like, ‘What do I say? What do I do?’"
Ultimately, though, But Streep broke the ice by showing Lawrence Zillow listings.

"Kate Dibiasky (Lawrence), an astronomy grad student, and her professor Dr. Randall Mindy (Leonardo DiCaprio) make an astounding discovery of a comet orbiting within the solar system. The problem—it’s on a direct collision course with Earth. The other problem? No one really seems to care. Turns out warning mankind about a planet-killer the size of Mount Everest is an inconvenient fact to navigate. With the help of Dr. Oglethorpe (Rob Morgan), Kate and Randall embark on a media tour that takes them from the office of an indifferent President Orlean (Streep) and her sycophantic son and Chief of Staff, Jason (Hill), to the airwaves of The Daily Rip, an upbeat morning show hosted by Brie (Cate Blanchett) and Jack (Tyler Perry)."
Timothée Chalamet, Ariana Grande, Scott "Kid Cudi" Mescudi, Ron Perlman and Mark Rylance round out the stunning ensemble cast.
The movie will premiere in select theaters Friday (Dec. 10) before streaming on Netflix beginning Dec. 24. Watch the trailer below.
