Mick Jagger and Dave Grohl recount 2020 perils in new single 'Eazy Sleazy'
It's become a common practice for people over the last year: gather around at home and vent about the never-ending list of nonsense and despair that has inundated us since at least March 2020. Dave Grohl and Mick Jagger also took part, though they added drums and guitars to the equation.
The rock icons teamed up to release "Eazy Sleazy" on Tuesday, including a lyric video:
Grohl, the former Nirvana frontman and current Foo Fighters frontman, begins on the drums while Jagger shreds the guitar and lends his signature vocal delivery to especially poignant lyrics related to the COVID-19 pandemic: "We took it on the chin / The numbers were so grim / Bossed around by p—ks / Stiffen upper lips."
The song addresses live music going on hiatus and travel bans as well as anti-vaxxers, mask mandates, "stupid" TikTok dances and Zoom. Ultimately, though, the message is cautiously optimistic: "It'll only be a memory you're trying to remember to forget."
Jagger, the 77-year-old legendary Rolling Stone, shared his motivation to put out the song:
"It's hard to put into words what recording this song with Sir Mick Jagger means to me," Grohl added from the official Foo Fighters Twitter account. "It's beyond a dream come true. Just when I thought life couldn't get any crazier......and it’s the song of the summer, without a doubt!!"
Life may get even crazier for Grohl should the Foo Fighters be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame when the class of 2021 is announced in May. The 52-year-old is also set to release his memoir The Storyteller on Oct. 5, and his What Drives Us documentary will drop April 30. Watch the trailer below.
