Official ‘House of Gucci’ character posters are here, and Jared Leto is unrecognizable

House of Gucci, directed by Ridley Scott, is the film adaptation of Sara Gay Forden's House of Gucci: A Sensational Story of Murder, Madness, Glamour, and Greed book that was published in 2000. Robert Bentivegna penned the screenplay.

"Spanning three decades of love, betrayal, decadence, revenge, and ultimately murder, we see what a name means, what it's worth, and how far a family will go for control," the biographical crime drama's official description teases (h/t IMDb).

More specifically, the movie is based around Patrizia Reggiani's (Lady Gaga) murder-for-hire plot that killed Maurizio Gucci (Adam Driver), Guccio Gucci's grandson and the last remaining family member to hold shares in the iconic fashion brand (h/t The Chicago Tribune). Gucci and Reggiani were married for 12 years before divorcing in 1985 (h/t The New York Times). 

Reggiani was sentenced in November 1998 to 29 years in prison for her ex-husband's murder, but she was released in 2016.

Al Pacino, Salma Hayek, Jeremy Irons and Jack Huston round out the cast. The Gucci family has taken particular issue with Pacino's casting.

"My grandfather [Aldo Gucci] was a very handsome man, like all the Guccis, and very tall, blue eyes and very elegant," Patrizia Gucci, Maurizio's second cousin, told The Associate Press in mid-April. "He is being played by Al Pacino, who is not very tall already, and this photo shows him as fat, short, with sideburns, really ugly. Shameful, because he doesn’t resemble him at all."

She also disputed the film as a whole: "We are truly disappointed. I speak on behalf of the family. They are stealing the identity of a family to make a profit, to increase the income of the Hollywood system. ... Our family has an identity, privacy. We can talk about everything, but there is a borderline that cannot be crossed."

Even so, House of Gucci will hit theaters in November.
