Olivia Wilde comments on relationship with Harry Styles: 'I’m happier than I’ve ever been'

Olivia Wilde and Harry Styles have been romantically linked for around a year, but each star has remained mum on the matter—other than being spotted packing on the PDA during a vacation in Italy over the summer.

The 37-year-old actress and filmmaker was, of course, asked about Styles, 27, for the January 2022 cover of Vogue.

"It’s obviously really tempting to correct a false narrative,” Wilde told the publication when asked if she'd like to comment on the public outcry over their 10-year age gap. “But I think what you realize is that when you’re really happy, it doesn’t matter what strangers think about you. All that matters to you is what’s real, and what you love, and who you love."

"In the past 10 years, as a society, we have placed so much more value on the opinion of strangers rather than the people closest to us," she added. "I’m happier than I’ve ever been. And I’m healthier than I’ve ever been, and it’s just wonderful to feel that."

The likes of Page Six and People first reported Styles and Wilde were dating in early January, when they were seen holding hands at the wedding of Style's agent.

"They were in Montecito, California this weekend for a wedding," an anonymous source told People at the time. "They were affectionate around their friends, held hands and looked very happy. They have dated for a few weeks."

That came after they worked together for the forthcoming period drama Don't Worry Darling, expected Sept. 23, 2022. Directed by Wilde, the film stars Styles opposite Florence Pugh as Alice, a 1950s housewife "living with her husband in a utopian experimental community" who "begins to worry that his glamorous company may be hiding disturbing secrets."

Wilde was previously engaged to Jason Sudeikis for seven years before news of their split broke in November 2020. They share two children, a seven-year-old son named Otis and a five-year-old daughter named Daisy.

With Vogue, Wilde also discussed the notion that her relationship with Styles and the photos of them on a yacht in Italy makes her a bad mother.

"Parenting forces you to be honest about how you live your life. It puts in sharp, clear focus decisions you’re making. I think we owe it to children to be happy. They sense it. They’re so intuitive. The idea that you can trick your kids into thinking you’re happy is ludicrous.
"You can go deep on Cold War influences on family structure, why we all think we need, you know, a two-parent household and a microwave. It’s very easy to control women by using guilt and shame, and I have no time for misplaced guilt and shame. The work I’ve done personally in the last decade has been learning to have a voice, and taking my voice seriously.”
