Penn Badgley pinpoints Dan Humphrey's worst moment on 'Gossip Girl'

Penn Badgley has cornered the market on duplicitous characters, and that began when he portrayed "Lonely Boy" Dan Humphrey on Gossip Girl for six seasons from 2007-12.

Spoiler alert: By series end, it was revealed that Dan had been "Gossip Girl" all along. In a new video for Esquire, Badgley pinpointed Dan's worst act of betrayal in the name of maintaining the high school rumor mill for the Upper East Side's most elite teenagers.

"He's the worst, but what's the actual worst thing he did? OK," the 34-year-old actor said. "Didn't he—he outed his sister losing her virginity. These storylines are twisted. This is villainous. I am known for playing off-putting and villainous characters. How did I end up here?"

Whatever questionable decisions Badgley made as Dan are multiplied by a million as sociopathic serial killer Joe Goldberg in Netflix's You, which premiered in September 2018 and released its third season last Friday (Oct. 15). The psychological thriller has already been renewed for a fourth season.
