Pete Davidson comments on 'SNL' future: 'I don't know what the plan is'

Everybody is waiting for confirmation on which cast members will be departing and returning for Saturday Night Live's 47th season, including Pete Davidson.

"Speaking for myself, like, I don't know what the plan is," Davidson, an SNL staple since September 2014, told the Gold Derby podcast yesterday (June 21). "So, you know, everything's kinda up in the air right now. Just depending on scheduling. It is my seventh year, and that's what the contract is usually for, so [the Season 46 finale] was really emotional."

He added: "You know, I worked with these guys for a fourth of my life. I've been in that—I started there with acne and left with tattoos. It's just a very crazy long period of time and wasn't ready for the season to end yet because I was really having so much fun."

SNL wrapped its 46th season on May 22, and rumors were immediately sparked by Davidson's sentimental "Weekend Update" sign-off as well as a teary-eyed Kate McKinnon during the cold open and Cecily Strong singing "My Way" as Jeanine Pirro.

The 27-year-old actor and comedian previously touched vaguely on his SNL future for The Hollywood Reporter's actors roundtable published May 27. When asked if he might spend 18 seasons on the iconic sketch comedy show like co-star Kenan Thompson, Davidson responded, "Yeah, I'm good. I'm surprised I made it to seven. I’m ready to hang up the jersey."

Page Six reported May 23 that the season finale "wasn't meant to be a final sign-off for anyone" as "contracts for next season won't be decided until later in the summer."

Either way, Davidson will be fine. The Staten Island native has slowly but surely transitioned into films, including last summer's semi-autobiographical The King of Staten Island directed by Judd Apatow.

Next up for Davidson is James Gunn's The Suicide Squad, due out Aug. 6. Further down the line, he will star in the film adaptation of The Things They Carried and portray Joey Ramone for a forthcoming Netflix biopic.
