Philip Seymour Hoffman's son makes film acting debut in 'Licorice Pizza' trailer

It's only right that Cooper Hoffman launch his film-acting career with Paul Thomas Anderson.

Anderson and Philip Seymour Hoffman, Cooper's late father, collaborated on five films—Hard Eight (1996), Boogie Nights (1997), Magnolia (1999), Punch-Drunk Love (2002) and The Master (2012)—before Philip died in February 2014 at 46 years old from an accidental drug overdose.

Written and directed by Anderson, Licorice Pizza stars Cooper as a successful child actor Gary Valentine "growing up, running around and falling in love in the San Fernando Valley, 1973," according to the official synopsis, which also notes, "the film tracks the treacherous navigation of first love."

The official trailer dropped Monday:

Alana Haim plays Alana Kane, Gary's love interest. The cast also boasts the likes of Bradley Cooper and Sean Penn.

Cooper Hoffman was first linked to the project in early September 2020.

In the age of day-and-date releases, Licorice Pizza will have a strictly theatrical release "soon." A specific date has not been revealed.
