Songs we’d love to hear Beyoncé cover

One of the biggest compliments to an artist is when a peer shows appreciation with a song cover. For years fans have heard artists cover songs, and at times the newer version is a bigger hit than the original. Beyoncé is no different, as she has covered a few songs throughout her career such as the Donny Hathaway and Roberta Flack duet, "The Closer I Get to You" and Rose Royce's hit song "Wishing on a Star."

With that in mind, here's a list of other songs we'd love to hear Beyoncé cover.

"Summertime" – Billie Holiday

When Beyoncé played the role of Etta James in "Cadillac Records," it helped give viewers a sense of how she could've been a jazz singer in another life. “Summertime” is a popular jazz record that has been covered many times by the likes of Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald and Sam Cooke. Since Beyoncé doesn’t have a surplus of ballads in her catalog, “Summertime” would be a great addition.

"Proud Mary" – Tina Turner

At one of Beyoncé’s live shows, she did a rendition of one of the most popular Tina Turner songs, “Proud Mary.” Although this track was already performed live, covering any Tina Turner song would give Beyoncé more of a rock 'n’ roll vibe to her sound.

"Angel" – Anita Baker

To add to Beyoncé’s love ballad discography, Anita Baker’s “Angel” has the elements of a perfect romance track. Since their vocal styles are so different, Beyoncé’s tone could change up the sound quite a bit to such a classic and timeless record.

"Free" – Deniece Williams

Deniece Williams has always had such a smooth and lush vocal tone that could elevate in octaves. If Beyoncé covered Williams' hit song "Free," it could truly test her opera singing range.

"Never Can Say Goodbye" – Jackson Five

When artists do covers of Michael Jackson, rarely is it a song from his early days as a member of the Jackson Five. “Never Can San Goodbye” is a perfect slow to mid-tempo jam that would showcase Beyoncé’s vocal range; in addition it would be hearing the song with a female lead.

"All Night Long" – Mary Jane Girls

For fans who want to hear a new track from Destiny’s Child, a sensual cover of the Mary Jane Girls hit song “All Night Long” would be great for a DC3 reunion. Hearing the harmonies between Beyoncé, Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams will showcase how they haven't missed a beat, and perhaps new music could be on the horizon.

"Love To Love You Baby" – Donna Summer

Beyoncé sampled the popular Donna Summer hit “Love To Love You Baby” on her 2003 hit, “Naughty Girl.” Although it was a short sample in the song, fans would like to hear Beyoncé cover a whole rendition and give an updated version to the ‘70s hit.

"Upside Down" – Diana Ross

Diana Ross released her hit song “Upside Down” toward the end of the disco era, and it was a hit dance track. Beyoncé could cover this song in one of two ways: showcase her love for that era of music or change it to sound more like a 2019 jam.

"Human Nature" – Madonna

Madonna is no stranger to making songs that could be a bit provocative and eye-opening, and it was no different on “Human Nature.” Although Beyoncé’s tone is completely different from the Material Girl’s, the music would give Beyoncé a different sound than fans are used to hearing.

"I Could Fall In Love With You" – Selena

Nobody could ever take the place of fallen Tejano singer Selena, but there’s always something special when another singer can pay homage to a legend. Since Selena and Beyoncé both hail from Texas, a rendition of “I Could Fall In Love With You” would be highly appreciative, especially by her fans in Texas.

"So Amazing" – Luther Vandross

Singer Luther Vandross had one of the purest vocal abilities in the soul world, and surprisingly there aren't many artists who cover his songs. If Beyoncé performed her own rendition of "So Amazing," it would be a great song to add to her solo debut album that featured more slow jams.

"Who Can I Run To" – Xscape

Beyoncé has worked with Xscape singer and songwriter Kandi Burruss in the past on songs like “Bills, Bills, Bills” and “So Good.” However, Xscape’s own hit “Who Can I Run To” would ideally work with Beyoncé’s vocal style. From the different octave ranges to the insane runs, Beyoncé could easily make this track an endearing rendition.

"Killing Me Softly With His Song" – Roberta Flack

The Fugees already made Roberta Flack’s “Killing Me Softly With His Song” popular, but Beyoncé could always put her own spin to it. While the Fugees added a hip-hop element to it, Bey could change up the music behind it to make it her own, perhaps with a couple of ad libs from Jay-Z as well.

"Tell Me" – Groove Theory

Groove Theory's hit song "Tell Me" always had '70s soul mixed with '90s R&B. Although this track was the band's biggest hit, if Beyoncé covered the track, perhaps it would spark the band to reunite and release new music.

"Saturday Love" – Cherrelle and Alexander O'Neal

Beyoncé hasn't recorded a lot of duets throughout her career. To properly cover the hit song "Saturday Love" from Cherrelle and Alexander O'Neal, she would need a male's voice that complements hers tremendously. Perhaps she could recruit singers like Bruno Mars, Miguel, or Usher to perform this cover.
