The most memorable quotes from 'Animal House'
As college film classics go, "Animal House" is the right movie for all the wrong reasons: rancid low-brow humor that wouldn't fly by today's standards. That said, it's also the perfect movie for our times. Anyone who says its not hilarious to watch John Belushi as the brutish Bluto slurp Jell-O or terrorize his less-aggressive fellow students is clearly selling you something you shouldn't buy. Not only is "Animal House" a cinematic time capsule, it's also one of the most quotable comedies out there. With that in mind, here are some of our favorite, most memorable lines from the film.
An understatement
Babs (Martha Smith): "That boy is a P-I-G pig!"
Nothing beats a visual description at the lunch table
Bluto (John Belushi): "See if you can guess what I am now."
[puts a scoop of mashed potatoes in his mouth and hits his cheeks with his fists and spits it out]
"I'm a zit. Get it?"
A prequel to Deflategate
Babs (Martha Smith): "Greg, honey, is it supposed to be this soft?"
Never give up
Bluto (John Belushi): "Christ. Seven years of college down the drain. Might as well join the ***** Peace Corps."
A bad day for the Deltas
D-Day (Bruce McGill): [enters with a bruised and bloodied Otter] "I found him after he called me from a phone on the side of the road outside of town."
Boon (Peter Riegert): [to Otter] "Holy s***! What happened to you? You look grotesque."
Otter (Tim Matheson): "Some of the Omegas jumped me and did a little dancing on my face."
Bluto (John Belushi): "Who was it?"
Otter: "It was Greggie and Douggie... and some of the other Hitler youth."
Boon: "Why? What'd you do?"
Otter: "That's just it... I don't know. They're just animals, I guess."
A simple request
Flounder (Stephen Furst): "May I have 10,000 marbles, please?"
Don't you wish all professors were this cool?
Prof. Jennings (Donald Sutherland): "Don't write this down, but I find Milton probably as boring as you find Milton. Mrs. Milton found him boring, too. He's a little bit long-winded, he doesn't translate well into our generation, and his jokes are terrible. But that doesn't relieve you of your responsibility for this material. Now, I'm waiting for reports from some of you... Listen, I'm not joking, this is my job!"
Dressing down the troops
He has a point, you know...
Mayor Carmine De Pasto (Cesare Danova): "If you want this year's homecoming parade in my town, you have to pay for it."
Dean Vernon Wormer (John Vernon): "Carmine, I don't think it's right that you should extort money from the college."
Mayor Carmine De Pasto: "Look, these parades you throw are very expensive. You using my police, my sanitation people and my Oldsmobiles free of charge. So, if you mention extortion again, I'll have your legs broken."
Laying down the law
Dean Vernon Wormer (John Vernon): "The time has come for someone to put his foot down. And that foot is me."
Bluto's call to action
- Bluto (John Belushi): "What? Over? Did you say 'over?' Nothing is over until we decide it is! Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor? Hell no!"
It's just a small get together
Bluto (John Belushi): "TOGA, TOGA."
Negotiations and love songs
Boon (Peter Riegert): "It's not gonna be an orgy! It's a toga party."
Katy (Karen Allen): "Honestly, Boon, you're 21 years old. In six months you're going to graduate, and tomorrow night you're going to wrap yourself in a bed sheet and pour grain alcohol all over your head. It's cute, but I think I'll pass this time."
Boon: "Want me to go alone?"
Katy: "Baby, I don't want you to go at all."
Boon: "It's a fraternity party. I'm in the fraternity. How can I miss it?"
Katy: "I'll write you a note. I'll say you're too well to attend."
...And you will know them by the trail of the cadavers...and exploding toilets
Dean Vernon Wormer (John Vernon): "Greg, what is the worst fraternity on this campus?"
Greg Marmalard (James Daughton): "Well. that would be hard to say, sir. They're each outstanding in their own way."
Dean Vernon Wormer: "Cut the horses—, son. I've got their disciplinary files right here. Who dropped a whole truckload of fizzies into the varsity swim meet? Who delivered the medical school cadavers to the alumni dinner? Every Halloween, the trees are filled with underwear. Every spring, the toilets explode."
Greg Marmalard: "You're talking about Delta, sir."
Dean Vernon Wormer: "Of course I'm talking about Delta, you TWERP!"
Overstating the obvious
Dean Vernon Wormer (John Vernon): "Fat, drunk and stupid is no way to go through life, son."
The worst kind of probation
Dean Vernon Wormer: "They are? Well, as of this moment, they're on DOUBLE SECRET PROBATION!"
One last warning...
Dean Vernon Wormer (John Vernon): "You're not walking out of this one, mister! You're finished! No more Delta! You've bought it this time, buster! I will call your national office! I will revoke your charter! And if you wise guys try one more thing, I am kicking you out of this college! No more fun of any kind!"
Bluto's not gonna take it anymore
Bluto (John Belushi): "What the **** happened to the Delta I used to know? Where's the spirit? Where's the guts, huh? This could be the greatest night of our lives, but you're gonna let it be the worst! 'Ooh, we're afraid to go with you, Bluto, we might get in trouble.' Well, just kiss my a— from now on! Not me! I'm not gonna take this! Wormer, he's a dead man! Marmalard, dead! Niedermeyer..."
A sick burn
Mandy Pepperidge (Mary Louise Weller): "Otter, don't flatter yourself. It really wasn't that great."
Like a bat into hell
D-Day (Bruce McGill): "Ramming speed!"
