The Rock announces 'Black Adam' release date over loud speakers in Times Square

It wouldn't shock anybody if, one day, Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson became our national spokesperson.

For the time being, though, the 48-year-old movie star took over Times Square in the heart of New York City to formally announce Black Adam will be released July 29, 2022:

"The hierarchy of power in the DC Universe is about to change," says an ominous yet unmistakably The Rock voice.

Back in November 2019, Johnson revealed that he had been cast as Black Adam—checking off another bucket-list item for Hollywood's highest-paid actor:

Black Adam  rounded out its cast last week by tapping Pierce Brosnan to play Dr. Fate:

The Jaume Collet-Serra-directed film will also star Sarah Shahi, Noah Centineo, Aldis Hodge and Quintessa Swindell. Johnson will simultaneously serve as leading man and executive producer.

The plot mostly remains a mystery, though we do know it will at least take elements from 5,000 years ago and reveal how or why his arch-rival Shazam imprisoned him before he re-emerged a free man with revenge on his mind.
