Tom Holland officially debuts as Nathan Drake in Sony's 'Uncharted' trailer

Tom Holland was first linked to Uncharted by Deadline in May 2017.

And on Thursday, Sony Pictures and PlayStation revealed the official trailer for the prequel live-action film adaptation of the Naughty Dog video game franchise by the same name:

"Based on one of the best-selling, most critically acclaimed video game series of all time, Uncharted introduces audiences to the young street-smart Nathan Drake (Holland) and showcases his first treasure hunting adventure with wisecracking partner Victor 'Sully' Sullivan (Mark Wahlberg)," the official description reads. "In an action-adventure epic that spans the globe, the two go in dangerous pursuit of 'the greatest treasure never found' while also tracking clues that may lead to Nathan’s long-lost brother."

The trailer finds Nathan as a bartender. He meets Sully, who stokes Nathan's interest in adventuring, historical figures who traipsed the globe and "the biggest treasure that's never been found." Sully says he figured Nathan was hanging around "because of your brother," and Nathan is surprised to learn Sully knows of him. "I've been dreaming of this stuff since I was a kid," Nathan's voiceover later explains. "My brother, Sam, left one final clue."

The two team up with Chloe Frazer (Sophia Ali) and run into a villain (Antonio Banderas), whose "family has been looking for this fortune for a very long time."

Directed by Ruben Fleischer and co-written by Art Marcum, Matt Holloway and Rafe Judkins, Uncharted is due Feb. 18, 2022. But Holland already has the blessing of Nolan North, who has voiced Nathan Drake since the video game series debuted in 2007:

While there's still time to wait before Uncharted  is finally released, Holland is starring again as Peter Parker/Spider-Man in Spider-Man: No Way Home, out Dec. 17.
