Watch: Alfonso Ribeiro tributes Bob Saget on 'America's Funniest Home Videos'
Bob Saget is instantly recognized as Danny Tanner from Full House, and later Fuller House, but the late actor and comedian was just as beloved as the original host of America's Funniest Home Videos.
Saget, 65, died unexpectedly on Jan. 9. He was found by staff at the Ritz-Carlton in Orlando, Fla., where he was staying since beginning his "I Don't Do Negative" stand-up comedy tour the previous Friday (Jan. 7). An initial autopsy found "no evidence of drug use or foul play."
In the week-plus since, grief and heartwarming tributes have flooded social media. America's Funniest Home Videos joined the still-growing chorus with an on-air tribute at the beginning of Sunday night's episode:
"As you've heard, the world lost a legend last week, and AFV lost a family member," said Alfonso Ribeiro, who has hosted the show since 2015. "Bob Saget is synonymous with AFV to this day, and this show wouldn't have been the same without his unique sense of humor. It's been my honor to continue carrying the torch Bob so brightly lit."
America's Funniest Home Videos premiered on Nov. 26, 1989, with Saget as the host. He remained in that role until May 1997. Simultaneously, Saget became a household name through Full House from 1987 to 1995.
