Watch: Gwyneth Paltrow learns of Glenn Close dismissing her Oscar win
Glenn Close questioned Gwyneth Paltrow's 1999 Oscar victory to ABC News' Peter Travers last November.
"I honestly feel that to be nominated by your peers is about as good as it gets," Close said then, discussing her Oscar nomination for best supporting actress for her role in last year's Hillbilly Elegy. "And then, I've never understood how you could honestly compare performances, you know? I remember the year Gwyneth Paltrow won over that incredible actress who was in Central Station, and I thought, 'What?' It doesn't make sense."
Paltrow heard of Close's comment for the first time while visiting Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen this week:
"I just learned this from you, Andy," the 49-year-old actress and Goop founder said during a game of "Plead the Fifth." "I never heard about this. [Laughs] Hmm. Well, I guess I have to [plead the fifth] because I don't know enough about it."
Paltrow claimed best actress for her role in Shakespeare in Love at the 71st Academy Awards over Cate Blanchett ( Elizabeth), Fernanda Montenegro (Central Station ), Meryl Streep ( One True Thing) and Emily Watson (Hilary and Jackie).
