Zac Efron is attached to star in Famous, from director Jody Hill.

Produced by Sam Esmail and Black Bear, the film follows an overzealous fan and a Hollywood heartthrob based on the novel by New York Times bestselling author Blake Crouch.

James Jansen is a Hollywood icon, and Lance Dunkquist is his spitting image. Lance is about to travel to Los Angeles, where he is determined to make his Hollywood dream come true. No matter what it takes.

Efron will play both roles in the film, an exciting challenge for the actor who most recently starred as Kevin Von Erich in The Iron Claw - a performance many critics believed to be Oscar-worthy.

Jody Hill's previous directorial credits include episodes of TV Series' Eastbound & Down, Vice Principals, Peacemaker, and The Righteous Gemstones.

Chad Hodge will pen the screenplay adapted from Crouch's novel, having previously adapted Crouch's Wayward Pines trilogy.

Joining Esmail as producer is Chad Hamilton, and Nick Krishnamurthy will executive produce.

Deadline first reported the news.
