Andrew Garfield even lied to Emma Stone about 'Spider-Man: No Way Home'

Andrew Garfield commits to his roles, even if that role is a liar who repeatedly denies any involvement in Spider-Man: No Way Home.

No Way Home hit theaters one month ago, so the secret is now out: Garfield did indeed reprise his role of Peter Parker, sharing the screen with Tom Holland's Peter Parker and Tobey Maguire's Peter Parker, because the multiverse has been opened.

But for months leading up to the film's release, Garfield and Holland maintained the bold-faced lie that Garfield had nothing to do with No Way Home. For Garfield, that included misleading his former girlfriend and The Amazing Spider-Man  co-star Emma Stone:

"Emma kept on texting me, and she was like, 'Are you in this new Spider-Man film?'" Garfield explained on Josh Horowitz's Happy Sad Confused podcast. "And I was like, 'I don't know what you're talking about.' She was like, 'Shut up. Just tell me.' I'm like, 'I honestly don't know.' I kept it going, even with her. It was hilarious."

The 38-year-old one-time Oscar nominee confirmed that he never told Stone the truth, and she was (jokingly) upset once she saw No Way Home, telling Garfield, "You're a jerk."

Garfield and Stone fronted The Amazing Spider-Man and The Amazing Spider-Man 2 in 2012 and '14, respectively. The pair dated for four years before breaking up in late 2015.

Outside of Spider-Man, Garfield won a Golden Globe and was nominated at the upcoming Screen Actors Guild Awards earlier this month for his work as the late Rent playwright Jonathan Larson in Tick, Tick ... Boom!

No Way Home has earned $1.6-plus billion at the global box office.
