Kim Deal was in the Pixies and The Breeders. She rules. You ever listen to "Last Splash?" That album is awesome.
Kim Gordon was in Sonic Youth, an '80s and '90s alt-rock band that even people who weren't into '80s and '90s alt-rock have heard of. She rules. Even if we're not into the experimental noise-rock-adjacent roads Sonic Youth went down on occasion, they are still a totemic band of that era. Also, they were on "The Simpsons!"
Both of them are doing solo work now, and both had albums come out in 2024. In fact, Deal's "Nobody Love You More" was her first solo album after being in the music scene for almost 40 years. However, while both are solo artists now, that didn't stop them from joining forces for John Mulaney's new Netflix show "Everybody's Live."
A quasi-deconstruction of the late-night format, "Everybody's Live" features musical guests not unlike your traditional talk show. Of course, it's not necessarily as straightforward as all that. In his most-recent episode, Mulaney first threw to Gordon, who played "Bye Bye" from her 2024 album "The Collective." Then, after a bit of comedy, he threw to Deal, who played the title track from "Nobody Loves You More." After all that, the episode ended with The Kims joining forces on the Sonic Youth song "Little Trouble Girl."

Yes, that's a brief clip, but that's all Netflix is giving us for now. Plus, it's still cool. Notably, Deal provided vocals on "Little Trouble Girl" alongside Gordon when it appeared on Sonic Youth's 1995 album "Washing Machine." The two had just never had he chance to perform it live. Leave it to John Mulaney to make that happen, we guess.
