Watch: Haunting 'Frankenstein' final trailer is so good it gives us life

Oscar Isaac’s Doctor Frankenstein says a funny thing in the final trailer for Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein. “I had not considered what comes after creation.” A ludicrous statement considering that humanity creates life ALL of the time. In fact, it’s practically required for continued survival. But you know what’s needed after that creation: love, care, etc. And we can already tell that is not what Frankenstein is about—but Guillermo del Toro isn’t about to let him off the hook for it. This haunting Frankenstein trailer gives a lot of space to both Frankenstein and Frankenstein’s monster, showing the monstrosity and the humanity contained in each of them. The Other is not the enemy in del Toro’s Frankenstein, but the cruely contained in a heart. You can watch the full, final Frankenstein trailer below.

“This was the way of the world, it would hunt you and kill you, just for being who you are.” The voiceover intones. And we already feel emotional over Frankenstein. In our exclusive look at the Art and Making of Frankenstein, Guillermo del Toro shared the following thought, “You see the creature in the beginning as the Other, and you finish the movie as Us. It is very rare to be able to make a movie about forgiveness.” And added that he wanted Frankenstein’s monster to be “more human than human.” And these sentiments really resonate with us as we watch this Frankenstein trailer.

Of course, beyond the gorgeous theme of the movie, the movie is literally just gorgeous. This final Frankenstein trailer takes our breath away with how beautiful it is. Those first shots of the barren icy wasteland, the way the costumes float and fall, even the composition of the Monster himself, all strike our eye in just the right way. If you head to our look at the Art and Making of Frankenstein, you can read more about how some of our favorite costumes, those for Mia Goth’s Lady Elizabeth Harlander, came to life. (Again, we cannot more highly encourage fans to dive into the artbook for this movie!!! You will not feel disappointed.)

So, who is the monster and who is the man in Frankenstein? I think we know. But if we really want to see, we can catch Frankenstein in theaters now for a limited engagement or stream it on Netflix starting November 7.
