Will Smith narrates first 'Bel-Air' teaser from Peacock: 'Same crown, New prince'

Bel-Air is not a revival of The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. Alfonso Ribeiro called it "a reimagining," and Will Smith is officially passing the torch to Jabari Banks.

Peacock dropped an early teaser called "My Kingdom" on Tuesday morning:

Smith's narration puts a dramatic, spoken-word spin on the original Fresh Prince theme song, which is an apt foreshadowing of what the series sets out to do.

"Set in modern-day America, Bel-Air is a serialized one-hour dramatic analogue of the 90’s sitcom The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air that leans into the original premise: Will’s complicated journey from the streets of West Philadelphia to the gated mansions of Bel-Air," the official synopsis explains. "With a reimagined vision, Bel-Air will dive deeper into the inherent conflicts, emotions and biases that were impossible to fully explore in a 30-minute sitcom format, while still delivering swagger and nods to the original show."

Smith shared the teaser to his Instagram with the caption, "Looked at his kingdom, he was finally there. Same crown. New prince":

Bel-Air was developed from a 2019 YouTube trailer by Morgan Cooper, who is listed as a director, co-executive producer and writer, and officially confirmed in September 2020 with a two-season order from Peacock. Banks was cast as the new Will in August this year.

Bel-Air will begin streaming in 2022.
