Jessica Chastain has found herself in the bad books of X users, with many labeling her as tone-deaf. Recently, the actress made headlines when she called out an airline over a less-than-ideal flying experience. The Oscar award winner expressed her frustration on social media, especially considering the amount she paid for the flight. However, Chastain’s complaints were met with a barrage of criticism online. Fans slammed the 47-year-old for coming online with such a trivial matter amid the recent natural disasters worldwide.
On October 9, Chastain took to her X account to air her grievances with an airline. In a series of now-deleted posts, she called out JetBlue because their in-flight entertainment was down during her recent trip. However, that wasn’t the only thing that upset her. The airline offered a $15 flight credit for the inconvenience, leaving Chastain angry. “Thank you @JetBlue for your $15.00 credit,” she wrote. The Hollywood icon noted that she coughed up $1500 for the flight, but the credit was only half what she paid.
Chastain further noted that it was strange that she paid for the flight entertainment system, which didn’t work throughout her six-hour flight. Chastain accompanied her write-up with a screenshot of the company’s travel credit offer. JetBlue didn’t stay quiet about the post. The company reached out to the Interstellar actress under her tweet. They apologized and asked her to send a message to resolve the issue.
Afterward, Chastain shared screen grabs of her original conversation with an airline representative. In it, the rep informed her that the $15 was for the TV outage. She requested a flight credit, but the staff revealed that there was nothing more they could do.
In no time, Jessica Chastain’s posts gained traction and subjected her to much criticism. Many X users accused the actress of being insensitive, considering the two natural disasters — Hurricane Helene and Hurricane Milton — which have left thousands of individuals without resources or relief. One fan asked Chastain to “read the room,” adding that she was a millionaire but chose to fly a budget airline.
A second user described the actress’s actions as “insane behavior.” They predicted that Jessica Chastain would delete the post soon before noting it was tone-deaf. One Hurricane survivor also shared that it wasn’t important. They revealed they had not had electricity for three days due to Hurricane Milton. A fourth fan slammed the star for making an issue out of noting, considering she was rich. They shared that Jessica Chastain was worth 50 million, and getting upset over being compensated by an airline wasn’t nice.
The fan also asked Jessica Chastain not to become “a Karen of the Airlines.” Another person stated that the actress’s whining showed that one could be a millionaire but a “broke b---- at heart.” On the other hand, some fans were more sympathetic to Jessica Chastain’s plight. According to them, it was understandable, and they would have done worse if they had been in her shoes. Meanwhile, Jessica Chastain has yet to comment on the backlash.
Jessica Chastain expressed her aggrievement with not getting the entertainment value she wanted from the airline. However, many X users were not pleased with her outburst as they felt it was tone-deaf. One can only wonder if the criticisms forced the actress to delete the posts she made. Whatever the case, the actress would have learned something from this experience.
