Cadillac and Andretti Global’s bid was rejected before the commencement of the 2024 season by FOM. However, Michael Andretti is firm on his dream to enter into F1 and has made several developments to achieve this. One such development has been in the form of opening up a brand new factory at Silverstone for Andretti’s F1 research and development.
A new team application process was initiated by Andretti-Cadillac in a bid to enter the current F1 grid. Subsequently, this application received the approval of FIA, and the final decision was laid in the hands of FOM, who rejected the application. Despite receiving setbacks, Michael Andretti seems determined to achieve his dreams and has now opened up a factory in Silverstone with 80 personnel onboard.
The 61-year-old inaugurated the factory on Wednesday in Silverstone.
We have embarked on the next stage of our preparations to enter the FIA Formula One World Championship with the opening of a new facility at Silverstone Park, UK. Joined by the existing Andretti Cadillac UK workforce of approximately 80 people, we had the honor today of inaugurating this new British home for our wider Andretti family. Despite being debarred from an entry until 2028, Andretti has been at it to receive approval by FOM. This desperation in the motorsport warehouse seems ominous with its F1 factory inauguration. Subsequently, this move can push FOM into a tough position.
Why venturing across to UK was necessary for Andretti?
Despite opening up its factory in Britain, one must wonder why the US corporation needed to venture over the Atlantic to set up a base. However, the 61-year-old has a strong answer to why they decided to open up a factory in Europe.
Andretti explained why Europe is a key continent for any F1 team.
We have said that our work continues at pace – this new facility embodies that work. While we are building an American works team, having a European base is a great way to attract the best in F1 talent and install state-of-the-art machinery. Michael Andretti said in a press release by the team
With every F1 team’s base set up in Europe(Britain and Italy), it becomes quite essential for any team to set up its factory in the continent to hire skilled and experienced personnel. This makes Europe an attractive destination for any emerging F1 team.
However, despite opening up a factory, there is no certainty that Andretti would finally be given an entry into the F1. The upcoming months could see further developments in Michael Andretti’s attempt to make it into the pinnacle of motor racing.
