Before the start of the 2024 season, it was revealed that Carlos Sainz would no longer be piloting Ferrari after the end of the ongoing campaign. However, since then, the 29-year-old has portrayed himself as the best driver on the grid except for the prolific Max Verstappen . The Spaniard’s performances have now correlated to him getting shortlisted for the second seat at Red Bull for 2025.
As per Soymotor and a few other reports, Red Bull has been in contact with Carlos Sainz and a return is ‘definitely under consideration.’ He was a part of the Red Bull pool of drivers during his debut season in 2015 with VCARB (Toro Rosso).
However, he left the Austrian giant’s pool of drivers to build his future somewhere else, but after so many years, it feels like the Milton Keynes-based squad is the best bet for him in 2025 to fight for Grand Prix wins.
Red Bull has a substantial list of drivers to choose from. The stability provided by Sergio Perez would be quite dear to them as the Mexican has massively upped his game. On the other hand, Red Bull also has the options of VCARB drivers, Daniel Ricciardo and Yuki Tsunoda.
Keeping in view everything, a return for Sainz to the Austrian manufacturer is definitely on the cards. However, he would require some miracles and amazing performances like at the Australian GP to convince Red Bulls’ hierarchy to bring him on board for next year.
F1 presenter claims Carlos Sainz could gamble on Williams instead of Audi
Sauber has yet to turn its reigns completely to Audi, however, the German manufacturer has been laying pressure on Sainz to make a decision soon amid the driver market drama. However, F1 presenter, Lawrence Barretto thinks otherwise regarding the whole situation.
The Brit claimed Williams might be a better alternative for the Spanish driver instead of a long-term Audi project.
I’m just not sure [Audi is] the project he wants at the minute. I think he would want to take a gamble on Williams maybe. Because if you want a slightly better short-term option, Williams are in a much better spot than Sauber are at the moment. Lawrence Barretto said on The Race F1 podcast
Barretto claimed that the Sauber-Audi project might not be what Sainz wants. Moreover, in a realistic time frame when Audi could be winning in F1, the 29-year-old could be out of his prime and may well have been sacked by that point.
So, according to Baretto, the British team is a better option for Sainz if he does not make the cut at Red Bull. This could make him the team leader at Williams and help the James Vowels-led outfit to grow. The Spaniard is easily one of the top drivers on the current grid.
