Alain Prost drove in F1 from 1980-1993 on an off-and-on basis. During his prime years in the sport, he was a huge menace to the other drivers and this is one of the reasons why he was able to amass a brilliant four world championships.

While he is regarded as one of the best to ever step foot into F1, he believes that he does not get enough recognition in comparison to some of the other drivers from his time. Prost drove for teams like Mclaren, Renault, Ferrari, and Williams during which, he was able to amass 199 starts with 41 fastest laps, and 106 podiums. He was also able to amass an impressive 51 Grand Prix wins.

Alain Prost is the fifth on the most wins list in the sport behind Sebastian Vettel, but still, he feels he is underrated. While shedding light on the same recently, he said, as reported by Motorsport Magazine:

I do ask myself sometimes how I am going to be remembered. It sounds like a joke but I’m completely underrated! I know that. I can see. I don’t know why, but it’s my brand in a way. It looks like it stays that way forever, it is part of the history.

The 68-year-old has somewhat downplayed his illustrious career at the pinnacle of motor racing. Winning four world championships is no joke. But despite this, Prost feels that he does not get the kind of recognition that in his opinion, he deserves.

The fierce Alain Prost and Ayrton Senna’s F1 rivalry

While Alain Prost has admitted that his F1 career is underrated, during his prime years, he had one of the most famous rivalries in the history of the sport, with the late. three-time world champion, Ayrton Senna. The die-hard fans can never forget their rivalry when they were teammates at McLaren-Honda in 1988 and 89.

As teammates, the duo won 25 out of the 32 races that were held during the 1988 and 89 seasons. Senna amassed 14 victories and 26 pole positions whereas Prost was able to put on board 11 wins and four pole positions. Moreover, they both managed one world championship each during their time together.

Their rivalry continued when Prost joined Ferrari in 1990, and to date, the rivalry is one of the most famous ones in F1 history. Just like Senna, Alain Prost has also had a glorious career and despite his belief of being underrated, he is going to be remembered as one of the best for several decades.
