Lewis Hamilton is moving away from Mercedes at the end of the 2024 F1 season. He signed a multi-year deal with Ferrari ahead of this year’s campaign and while the dust around his mega move has settled, he has taken the time to shed light on Max Verstappen‘s potential move to Mercedes.
Max Verstappen has been making his trade in F1 with Red Bull since 2016. He has won three world championships with them so far but because of the ongoing Christian Horner saga, rumors have come out about Verstappen leaving the team to join Mercedes next year.
A lot has been said about this fascinating prospect within the paddock and while talking about the same, Lewis Hamilton recently said, as reported by Soymotor:
If you run a team, you want to have the best driver and you also want your team to have two drivers with a lot of eyes on them, who attract sponsors. Max is one of them. I understand that, but it wouldn't make sense for him, he would say, but it will be something interesting to see.
The former seven-time world champion has given a very diplomatic answer on the prospect of Verstappen to Mercedes. However, he has admitted that it will be a fascinating to see the Dutchman making his trade with the German team.
Max Verstappen’s dad recently had a meeting with Toto Wolff
While Lewis Hamilton has made it known that a move to Mercedes would not make sense to Max Verstappen, the latter’s German team rumors have mostly been stemmed from the meeting his dad, Jos Verstappen, had with Mercedes boss, Toto Wolff in Bahrain.
Since their infamous meeting, various kinds of rumors have circled around the 26-year-old’s 2025 prospect. The Mercedes seat is still vacant and Verstappen is being seen by many people as one of the favorites to get it.
However, despite all the hype, one has to remember that Max Verstappen’s current contract with the Red Bull F1 team runs until the end of the 2028 F1 season. He has been dominating the sport under the current regulations and if somehow, Verstappen does manage to sign with Mercedes next year, it would be a bigger shock in comparison to Lewis Hamilton’s Ferrari move.
