British driver Lewis Hamilton missed out an opportunity to win his record eighth world championship in 2021 by one of the most controversial events ever in the history of sport. However, since then, Hamilton has been facing a win-scarcity and failed to replicate his championship winning performance. Hence, F1 presenter Martin Brundle has reckoned that Hamilton might think of a plan B.

Lewis Hamilton still tops the charts for the most number of wins and pole positions ever in the history of Formula 1. However, as seen from the waning form of Mercedes, the 38-year-old might not be presented with the best opportunity of a championship contention. Despite the winless stint from Hamilton, his teammate George Russell did manage a victory in 2022 and outscored his teammate in his first season at Mercedes.

Additionally, Hamilton has been in the sport for almost 17 years now. People started questioning the Briton over his capabilities as a driver despite his record-matching world championship performance in the past. Hence, if Mercedes produces stability issues in the future, Hamilton might have to consider other options or take serious measures to enable any chances of winning.

Anyhow, Brundle suggested that if the Briton was wary of the winning chances, he would consider other options. If Hamilton thought that winning the record breaking eighth championship with Mercedes was impossible, he would think of a ‘Plan B’ according to the British reporter.

I think if Lewis senses that the eighth title is unachievable in a reasonable time frame, he’ll be thinking of Plan B Brundle wrote in a special Sky Sports F1 Column.

Martin Brundle highlighted the difference between Lewis Hamilton and George Russell in this season

According to the British reporter, both the drivers were very close to each other in terms of performance. Hamilton scored a total of 234 points and secured a P3 finish, meanwhile, George Russell scored just 175 points and finished in eighth. Regardless, both the drivers performed well considering the difficult challenger built by Mercedes this season.

Brundle claimed that it was ‘close to call’ over an comparison between the two Britons. However, Hamilton had experience over Russell, but the 25-year-old had his youth with him to perform well in his future. The British presenter was not hesitant in commenting that Hamilton wasn’t just better because he was a seven-time world champion.

Both the drivers have delivered promising performance from the difficult W14 and proved their mettle. Anyhow, as the team shuts operations for the winter break, the Brackley hopes for a meteoric rise in performance for the following season and finally battle for the championship contention like the old days.
