Lewis Hamilton has decided to leave Mercedes in a shock announcement before the onset of the 2024 season. He was contracted till the end of the 2025 season with the team in Brackley but has decided to activate a release clause to part ways with the team in the lure of the Ferrari overalls. Martin Brundle has reacted to the current scenario in the paddock and how Hamilton’s career has escalated to a new level.

He has seen various world champions crowned while in his time in F1 and is often witnessed praising Hamilton for his driving ability and career choices.

Why did the Lewis Hamilton-Mercedes partnership end?
The seven-time F1 World Champion is statistically the most successful driver to have ever driven in Formula 1 with 103 race wins to his name. A total of 82 race wins were collected with the Mercedes and 6 of his 7 world championships, one must wonder why Hamilton is leaving this record-breaking alliance behind.
The Briton’s last win in F1 was in the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix in 2021 and has since not won a single race. He had initially left Mclaren for Mercedes, which seemed like a ‘no-brainer’ to many people but this combination toppled the records of Michael Schumacher and Ferrari’s partnership of the early 2000s.
This venture was left with a sour taste after the Abu Dhabi 2021 controversy and Hamilton aimed for his 8th championship in 2022-23 seasons, but failed to win a single race. Seeing Mercedes’s current position, he decided to jump ships to the team based in Maranello and join an elite club of drivers who have driven for the team.
