Sprint races in Formula 1 have always been something that has a lot of varied opinions. The majority of the drivers especially three-time World Champion, Max Verstappen , have shared multiple times about how he despises the sprint events, and how unfair they are to drivers and teams because of the limited resting time.
But, F1 CEO Stefano Domenicali has recently revealed during an interview that he would be open to adding more sprint races to the F1 calendar. The 58-year-old feels after the brilliant sprint qualifying and race in Shanghai, the sport could add more Sprint races.
F1 sprint races were introduced in 2021 to garner more attention to the sport.
The qualifying sprint in those incredible conditions, we had a lot of running and that reminds us that we have the duty to make sure that every day there is some action on the track to respect the fans that are coming here and want to have fun. Why not? Why not? I would say this is great because it keeps the tension on every day and this is something that will be discussed in the future. Stefano Domenicali said via Autosport
Domenicali also added that depending on how the remaining sprint races go this year, adding more events in the future is a possibility. Only time will tell how many F1 sprints fans and drivers can expect in the near future. Keeping in view Max Verstappen‘s displeasure with the event, he will surely be annoyed if more events get added.
Max Verstappen reveals he finds the new F1 sprint format ‘better’
Ever since sprint races were introduced into F1 in 2021, there have been a lot of changes to the format. Max Verstappen has always been vocal about how he despises the sprint races, but following the new format this season, he revealed that he finds it slightly ‘better.’
The sprint format was better, a bit more straightforward I would say, But let’s not overdo it as well, because we are already doing 24 races a year, six of these sprint events as well.

But, following these positive remarks, the Dutchman also added how the six sprint races that F1 has now are more than enough because of the length of the season calendar. The upcoming race at Miami will also be run under the sprint format, and considering this, it will be interesting to see how the three-day event would pan out on a very different track in comparison to Shanghai.
