The world of F1 has been turned upside down with various kinds of accusations, and rumors swirling all over the paddock. While a lot has happened since the start of the 2024 campaign, one of the most recent saga’s is the ongoing investigation into FIA President, Mohammed Ben Sulayem.
Earlier this month, it came to light that Sulayem was put under investigation for allegedly trying to interfere in a couple of Grand Prix last year. One was the Saudi Arabian GP and the other one was the inaugural Las Vegas event.
While the investigation is currently in progress, Mercedes boss, Toto Wolff wants to see the utmost transparency in the whole matter.
I think what’s happening at the moment in the sport, in these various situations, we don’t know exactly what happened. But the negative criticism that we get is for the lack of transparency. I think this is what we need to understand. Toto Wolff said in an interview, as reported by racingnews365
Sulayem is being investigated for a potential role in Fernando Alonso‘s third-place finish in at the Saudi Arabian GP. Moreover, he is also in the firing line for allegedly pushing the officials to not certify the new Las Vegas F1 circuit in order to cancel the event.
Toto Wolff’s key Mercedes figure could leave for Ferrari
While Toto Wolff has not held back from voicing his strong opinion on the Mohammed Ben Sulayem investigation, he has other things to worry about at Mercedes. The Brackley-based team could lose out on its Driver development director, Jerome D’Ambrosio at the end of this year.
D’Ambrosis’s contract is up at the end of 2024 and as per reports, he is looking to leave Mercedes to join Ferrari next year.
I think he's with us at the moment and the situation is more personal reasons that he's evaluating the options of what to do and I think it's something he should speak about. But all is good, all is good, we'll see what happens. Toto Wolff said in an interview, as reported by AutoSport
Mercedes has already got Lewis Hamilton leaving for Ferrari and thus, they really can’t afford to lose out on more key individuals. The German outfit is currently the third or fourth-fastest team on the grid and things need to improve quickly, otherwise, the lights of Aston Martin and McLaren could get the better of them.
Red Bull has proved dominant once again and as per general belief, they are expected to be at the front throughout the 2024 F1 season. The scrap for second place in the Constructors Championship is shaping up to be a four-way tussle.
