Oscar Piastri Joins Senna, Prost and Häkkinen With Historic McLaren Hat-Trick

Oscar Piastri has just written his name into McLaren’s history books — alongside some of the biggest legends Formula 1 has ever seen.

With his third consecutive victory, Piastri became only the fourth McLaren driver in history to win three races in a row. The other three? Alain Prost, Ayrton Senna, and Mika Hakkinen — icons of the sport and world champions. That’s the caliber of company Piastri is now keeping.

Not since 1998, when Hakkinen was in his championship-winning prime, has a McLaren driver managed this level of consistent dominance. Now, over two decades later, it’s the 23-year-old Australian who has reignited the spark of McLaren glory — and he’s doing it with calm precision and relentless pace.

Piastri’s recent performances have turned heads up and down the paddock. He’s been clinical under pressure, confident in wheel-to-wheel battles, and composed in changing conditions—a rare combination that has translated into back-to-back wins and growing momentum.

What’s even more impressive is that this streak has come during one of the most competitive F1 seasons in years. With Red Bull and Mercedes breathing down his neck, and teammate Lando Norris also in top form, Piastri’s ability to consistently deliver under pressure speaks volumes about his mentality.

The Australian’s win wasn’t just historic — it was emphatic. He finished 37 seconds clear of the first non-McLaren car, underlining just how complete his performance was. But despite the dominance, Piastri was quick to point out there’s still work to be done.

“Celebrations — that’s definitely top of the list at the moment!” he joked. “I think this weekend was not my best, and a lot of that was yesterday. The rac today was pretty solid, but yesterday I was pretty frustrated with my performance. Ultimately, yes, I won the race, but I think the likelihood of winning many races [after] qualifying fourth is pretty low,” he added.

Piastri sure did a lot of things right to win the race, but he admitted that there was definitely some good fortune there as well combined with a very quick car and he doesn’t want to rely on that every race.

Nevertheless, this winning streak doesn't just place Piastri in elite company — it positions him as a genuine future world title contender. If he and McLaren keep this up, more history could be just around the corner.
