The University of Louisville has revealed their outdoor track & field schedule for the 2024 season, according to director of track & field and cross country Joe Franklin. After completing the indoor season at the NCAA Indoor Championships in early March, the Cardinals will kick off their outdoor campaign at four different meets over the last weekend of March.
Louisville will be sending a group of athletes to the 96th annual Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays in Austin, Texas from March 27-30. At the same time, the squad will also be represented at Texas State’s Bobcat Invite in San Marcos, Texas. The Cardinals will then split their team between the Stanford Invitational and San Francisco State’s Mike Fanelli Track Classic, both taking place from March 29-30, to round out the first weekend of the outdoor season.
The following weekend will see the team split again between three meets. On April 5, the Cardinals will compete at Bellarmine’s Jim Vargo Invitational in Louisville. The rest of the team will split the weekend of April 5-6 between Arizona’s Jim Click Shoot Out and Multis and the Tennessee Invite.
Moving forward, Louisville will travel to California to compete at one of the most prestigious outdoor meets in the country, the Bryan Clay Invitational, from April 11-13. Another group from the team will compete at Long Beach State’s Beach Invitational from April 13-15. The team will then head to Lexington, Kentucky on April 19-20 for Kentucky’s Jim Green Invitational before splitting once again.
The majority of the team will remain in Louisville on April 26-27 for the Clark Wood Invitational, which is the only home meet of the outdoor season. However, some groups will also travel to the Drake Relays from April 24-27 and to Stanford’s Payton Jordan Invitational on April 26.
The regular season will conclude with Indiana’s Billy Hayes Invitational on May 3 before the Cardinals shift their focus to the postseason. The ACC Outdoor Championships will take place from May 9-11 in Atlanta, Georgia, followed by the NCAA East Regional in Lexington from May 22-25. Two weeks after the regional meet, the NCAA Outdoor Championships will be held in Eugene, Oregon from June 5-8.
Once the collegiate season comes to an end, individuals who have met qualifying marks will return to Eugene for the United States Olympic Trials, which will take place at historic Hayward Field from June 21-30. Those who perform well at the trials will have the opportunity to represent the United States at the 2024 Paris Olympics in early August.
