Louisville, KY – UofL men’s tennis is starting off the season strong, with freshman Miguel Avendaño already earning an impressive accolade. Avendaño was recently named ACC Men’s Tennis Freshman of the Week, a well-deserved recognition for his outstanding performance on the court.

Throughout the week, the Cardinals boasted a flawless 3-0 record, with Avendaño playing a crucial role in securing the doubles point in each match. His contribution cannot be overstated, as he consistently stepped up when it mattered most.

In Sunday’s match against Northwestern, Avendaño and his partner found themselves in a tense situation, with the doubles point hanging in the balance. The pair fought hard and managed to come back from a 3-1 deficit, ultimately winning the match 7-5. Avendaño’s composure and skill were instrumental in securing the vital point for his team.

Avendaño’s impact extended beyond the doubles matches. In Louisville’s season opener against Xavier, the freshman sensation clinched the singles point from Court 6, displaying his dominance on the court. He won the match in straight sets, leaving no doubt about his capabilities as a singles player as well.

Overall, Avendaño had an impeccable record for the week. He emerged victorious in all three doubles matches, showcasing his versatility by playing from the No. 2 and 3 spots. In addition, he maintained an undefeated singles record, going 1-0 in his solo matches.

With this early success, Avendaño has undoubtedly proven himself as a valuable asset to the UofL men’s tennis team. His skill, determination, and ability to perform under pressure make him a force to be reckoned with on the court. As the season progresses, it will be exciting to see how Avendaño continues to excel and contribute to his team’s success.
