Cleveland Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield dropped a hint on Sunday that he was leaving social media behind in the offseason.

After congratulating the winner of the NFL divisional playoff games, he sent a follow-up tweet that said:

“Nevertheless… social media is toxic. Always kept my circle tight. Time to get back to that. Family and loved ones only.”

On Tuesday, he doubled down by saying:

“Getting off all social media for the foreseeable future.  Gotta do what’s best to focus on me, my family and loved ones. Appreciate all the support. Time to get right.”

Smart Move By Mayfield

This is a wise move for Mayfield.

There is no doubt that social media was part of what unraveled the 2021 Browns.

Odell Beckham Sr. got it started, but others have followed.

The most recent was on Sunday when Dustin Fox posted a tweet during the games that said:

“Do you folks see why what you have at quarterback just isn’t good enough? #Browns”

Instead of dealing with these distractions, Mayfield needs to focus on healing and rehabbing.

He just had shoulder surgery one week ago.

The recovery timeline is between four and six months.

The plan is for him to be fully recovered and ready by training camp.

Is Mayfield The Browns QB Of The Future?

That is the million-dollar question.

It appears that football fans tend to compare him to Joe Burrow and Patrick Mahomes who are both playing in the AFC Championship this weekend.

Whether those comparisons are justified given the teams run different offenses especially this year with Mayfield’s injuries is debatable.

It seems as though this offseason is going to be filled with rumors about Mayfield and other quarterbacks who may join the Browns through trade, free agency, or the draft.

Tuning that out and focusing on his health and game is definitely in Mayfield’s best interest.
