Lionel Messi's exit from Barcelona last summer, and his imminent move to Paris Saint-Germain were, unquestionably, some of the most discussed topics of 2021. The Argentine opted to depart the Blaugrana after spending a total of 21 years at Camp Nou, including his La Masia academy days.

Little did everyone know that in no time, he would move to the Ligue 1 powerhouse. For the first time in his professional career, he had to wear different jersey colors than the blue and red ones. The last time was when he was a bright 13-year-old wunderkind at Argentina's Newell's Old Boys.

With 35 trophies in his collection, including six Ballon d'Or awards, ten La Liga titles, four Champions League titles, and three Club World Cups, a tearful Messi said farewell to his boyhood club in a soul-stirring press conference on August 8, just three days after the club declared that he would not be returning.

Why Dest showed up at Messi's farewell press conference in Chicago Bulls jersey

What seemed off and evidently stood out at Lionel Messi's farewell news conference was Sergiño Dest and his unusual attire. While everyone was dressed in noticeable elegant attire, the United States international attracted a lot of attention when he appeared donning NBA team Chicago Bulls' sports equipment.

At the time, it was seen as a very bold fashion move, and it has taken six months to find out the reason behind it. Spanish journalist Alex Lopez Vendrell and Catalan publication La Porteria have revealed that the 21-year-old defender was, in reality, not informed of the scheduled press conference.

Dest chose to travel to the beach to take advantage of the break completely unaware of the happenings at Camp Nou. After being contacted numerous times without success, a club staffer tracked him out and drove him to La Masia without providing him the opportunity to change into something more appropriate for the occasion.
