It’s not a matter of if, but when a Ben Simmons trade will happen. Keith Pompey of the Philadelphia Inquirer revealed that a blockbuster trade featuring the 76ers point guard is reportedly “inevitable” before the 2021-22 NBA season.

Pompey added that the interest in Simmons is higher than expected because of a weak free-agent class, but a timetable for a deal remains unclear. Multiple sources told Pompey that a deal may not be finalized until the preseason, which could mean the Simmons is on the team until October.

“Philadelphia has options,” a league source told Pompey. “They’re just not finite.”

Given the belief that Philly wants to move on from the all-star, many front offices are seeking a “bargain-basement deal.”

The 76ers have remained adamant about getting an All-Star player in a potential deal, but so far no team has been willing to offer that, especially after Simmons’ continued shooting woes raised questions this offseason.
